Post subject: Creating and using a new stereotype in UML2, MyEclipse 7.5
Hello,

Today I updated MyEclipse 7.5 so that UML2 was loaded and available. I am able to create the generic diagrams OK.

What I want to do is create a component diagram where the items are stereotyped. I can see the built in types and apply them but what I am looking for are other types not defined. Items like <external>, <file>, <autosys>, that is, user defined types. Searching the forums and the internet I find a plethora of help - none that apply to the tools in MyEclipse. I do see the "Profile diagram" type and can create new stereotypes there. However, I can not find how to make them available for use.

Does anyone know any help or tutorial on how to do this? If not, what are the steps?

Thanks in advance for your help.

andrewb,

Can you please have a look at this thread about adding the stereotypes ?
http://myeclipseide.com/PNphpBB2-viewtopic-t-12205-highlight-stereotypes.html

Here is the tutorial for Part 1 - J2EE Application Modeling with MyEclipse UML :

You can find more about J2EE Application Modeling with MyEclipse UML in the UML section here :

Let me know how this works for you.

Thanks for your reply. Ive checked the thread you mentioned and the documents you linked to. The UI shown in those and the methods described dont work - the UI appears different. When I select a class from a UML diagram, I can choose from a list of existing stereotypes in two existing profiles but their is no option to create a new stereotype. Is there more uptodate information?

andrewb,

1) You can create a stereotype by right clicking on the model and going to "Create Child-->Packaged Element -- Stereotype" from the outline view.

2) To add existing stereotypes, can you try these steps :

a) Create uml2 diagram
b) Right click on the uml2 from outline view and select, Apply Profile
c) It will show default profiles, select any of the profile now, If you create class or package
and observe, you'll see available stereotypes within the properties stereotype tab.

Let me know how this works for you.
