As you can tell, our support staff spends a fair amount of time reviewing these forums and answering questions from all over the world. Recently, I became curious as to the number of regions and countries we have represented thus far in our little "community".

The intent of this thread is simply to welcome you and find out what part of the world you live in. So, what I'd like you to do, if you're willing, is simply to post a followup message to answer the following question; as we say in Dallas, Texas, USA, where we live, "Howdy, where y'all from?"

Yep, it's hard to get bad barbeque here, as long as you're looking for beef barbeque. Of course, I also enjoy the pulled pork variety from the Tennessee / Carolinas area too. All smoked meat is welcome here. ;-)

I am from Zagreb, capital of Croatia, a small Mediterranean country (for those geographically chalenged ;-)

This is my first day here. I thought I would play a bit with MyEclipse over my vacations and see whether it is the right choice for those occasions when Vim is too little and WebSphere Developer's Studio too much. Looks good so far!

Hello All,

I am from Budapest, Hungary.

Actually I am browsing the forums for quite a while now, and also managed to make our CTO to buy a couple of licenses :-) I don't know whether he already made the order, however :-)))

I usually develop EJB and Web applications, and now I am into working with workflows with Weblogic Platform 8.1.

Therefore I would also welcome some workflow editor into MyEclipse which would able to act as a substitute for Weblogic Workshop which I unfortunately find too slow and uncomfortable to work with.

For a first step a verification check for .jpd files would be good, which would check that the process language XML is correct, and also that all methods referred in it exist.

Afterwards the Weblogic generator programs could be invoked to generate the necessary Java files from it.

Great to hear. I don't think I've seen a license key go out to Hungary yet, but I could be mistaken. I used to go through the log and look at them all, but with the increase in subscriptions I don't really have time to do that anymore. I guess that's a good thing. :-)

On the WebLogic front, we'll look at providing workflow tools based on the upcoming standards but I don't think we'll be providing any competitive tools just for WebLogic like workshop. We like to keep all our tooling as server independent as possible to cover the widest possible market.

If you end up using MyEclipse and WebLogic Workshop, you might think about writing an article about it, either for publication in JDJ or our website (or both). A good "how to" on the topic would be beneficial to many people. Just a thought.

Probably I won't do too much common work with Workshop and MyEclipse, the only thing which comes into my mind as a possible scenario is deploying the jar files generated with Workshop together with any other files in the Eclipse side of the project with (My)Eclipse.

A couple of days ago the 'progressbar' on the news pages mentioned 2.5.2., now it is 2.6. That's the reason for my question. I already thought it had something to do with

I work with Scott in Dallas, but I had the pleasure of traveling to Copenhagen on business about a year and a half ago. I was only there a week but it was enough to know that I needed to go back when I'm on vacation to really enjoy the area. By the way, I was amazed at the incredible level of proficiency several of my Danish associates had with spoken English. Actually, to tell the truth, they didn't speak 'English', they spoke 'American' because I could've mistaken them for US natives based on their lack of any discernable accent. I asked them about it and although they said they'd taken English in school for years it was really the hours of watching American TV that made them so fluent. Calling it "cultural language studies" sure sounds much better than "wasting time watching TV".

By the way, my trip was in January (cold, damp, windy, dark) and I still enjoyed it. I can't wait to see what the summer is like some day.

i'm Java developer, and webdesigner. Use MyEcplise for both... have about 3-4 sites that i manage some nice some less :D

in my dayjob i do everything in windows, but the second i have the option i switch to linux (for about more then 2 years now)... (Gentoo Linux active member in translations and operator @ #gentoo-be)...

Belgium is cold and rainy, but where i live it's the biggest university city of belgium, and we have our ways to stay warm :D. also we have the biggest bar here of belgium, and that is on big square (like in trafalgar square) with only pubs and restaurants...

todd the summer is great in Copenhagen, been there in the summer had a great time... you should try more scandinavian countries, they are beautifull...

neway... thanks for this forum, and for your exellent support... one day you'll hate me for ever visiting here, cause i will submit every bug/problem i see :D

Another Gentoo user, welcome!

I'm from Tucson, Arizona. You can't beat the weather here 8 months out of the year... its just those ~4 months of summer where birds, dogs and people die from the heat that scares everyone away :)

Although, to overcompensate for the heat, we are the air conditioning capitol of the world

Woops, and one more thing: I had a friend that travelled through Texas recently and came back with stories of BBQ and Steak houses that made my mouth water. I just *have* to make it there some day.

Hello Everybody;

My name is Alejandro and I am in Mexico City;

This is quite Large city; Actually the city get over the borders of the state it belongs.

I mean; the city is located in the 'Distrito Federal' that is (you may think as) the 32th state of Mexico. But the Urban Blob at one end (the north) reaches and goes beyond the state limits!!

This city has many drawbacks but it also has many good things.

The drawbacks are the same that all Big-Cities:
- Heavy Traffic
- Contamination
- Everybody is in a Hurry

The Good Things:
- Almost Everything can be found here
- It has many (in the south) green areas, museums, movie theathers, etc.
- It has many colonial parts like Coyoacan :) (I live near by)
- You can look at history in downtown; because it is very Old.

I am now developing in Java/J2EE, but a couple of years before; I was working with C,C++ in MSFT Platform.

It has been nice to become part of this quite dynamic comunity 8)

Well apparently there are actually a few hundred so it's great that some of you post here and let us know what's up in other parts of the world.

By the way, I hear the food in Mexico city is much more sophisticated than what we eat as Tex-Mex here. True?

Hi again Scott!,

Sorry for the delay, but when I was submiting my post (about a week and a half), my internet quota ran out; then I lost my post :? , then i had to go out for a week... and I am just right Back :)

About he food.... yes; the Mexican Food is more sophisticated than what Tex-Mex is (I think).

As far as I know Tex-Mex stands mainly for meat dishes whith chili and with some tortillas an some other vegetables.

Well, mainly meat dishes are very common on the north states from the country; but there are a Wide variety of dishes from all over the country.

One of them is the "Mole". When you refer to Mole as a dish; its refering the chicken meat covered with Mole.

Or if you are refering the Mole as a Condiment; then its just that; the preparation that is used to cover the Chicken Meat :)

The peculiarity of the Mole is that is made from several Chiles; where the "Chile Poblano" is one of the main ingredients. Then... it also contains many seeds; including "Ajonjolí" (I dont know how to translate that). And the principal ingredient is Chocolate!.

You may think that it is mainly sweet .. for the chocolate; but it actually doesnt. it is sweet at some point, but the Chile and all the other seeds and specia make it a delicious dish :)

One drawback is that it is actually some kind of heavy to the stomach (mainly por people not used to it).

The State of Puebla is one of the states that is Famous for its Mole. And the traditional Mole from Puebla is called "Mole Poblano".

Another interesting thing is that there are soo many varieties of Mole. Diferring from the sweetness, the Hotness (different combination of Chiles), and Color!! .... there is actually a "Mole Verde" that is color Green!.

But, in Mexico City are Meny other things besides Mole :wink:
Here is a big city, and you can find any kind of food that you like, from hamburgers to international food, passing by sea food, chineese, etc, etc. :)

Well, i hope you have the chance to try Mole for yourself :)

Actually, now that you mention it, I have had mole precisely one time. I found the flavor quite unusual, but somehow compelling. The mix between the chocolate and the chilis was a bit strange at first, but I really did enjoy it. The only reason that I"ve only had it once is that it's a little hard to come by in Dallas. :-)

Can't hurt. :-) One way to break in this place in particular would be to learn to write Eclipse plugins really well, since that's almost all we do (for either MyEclipse or our consulting clients) these days.

Interestingly, we're experiencing about the same weather today. The expected high is 90F/32C in both Delhi and Dallas. :-)

However, you've got about 20% higher humidity so I'm sure it feels about 10 degrees hotter than it does here. Welcome to MyEclipse!

But, of course you knew I wouldn't be able to resist. I had a pretty fair idea of where Romania was (ie. "near Hungary"). However, while consulting the map I found was also reminded that Romania is a wine producer and that I'd actually had some Romanian wine recently at a Halloween party. It was really quite good. Additionally, I found out that there's apparently a country named Muldova that I'd never heard of before. Anyone here from Muldova? :-)

Currently living in Calgary, Alberta Canada with my family. We moved here from Stellenbosch, world famous wine region of sunny South Africa.

OK, it's been over a month since anyone new contributed to my favorite thread here, so I'm just posting this so it will light up as "new" in your browser. Since it obviously worked, and you're reading this now, how about typing a quick reply to let us know where you're located? Word has it that we sell into over 130 countries and there are only about a dozen in this thread so far. Where's yours? :-)

Nice thread this :)

I'm from Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Famous for its beautiful canals, historical city centre, and relaxing athmosphere. Our company is located in this centre, so we all come to it by bike or public transportation. Parking your car is not really an option here. Thanks for the "mental picture". I think we actually have quite a few subscribers from the Netherlands, especially adjusting for the population. Seems like the software industry must be doing rather well there.

On a side note, I went to Copenhagen a few years ago and amazed that some of the people I met (in their 20's) spoke perfect, unaccented "American". I call it that, rather than English, because they sounded like they could be from the midwest. I asked how they managed such a mastery of their second language and each one attributed it to being hooked on American TV since they were kids. Is Amsterdam the same way?

It's nice to hear there are more subscribers from the Netherlands. There are quite a few technical inclined people here (judging from the activity on Dutch 'programming' fora) :) We don't really have a software industry that produces software as a core business. I think a lot of the activity is in support departments for banking or transport organizations etc.

Well, the situation here is that we're exposed to a lot of English. A large percentage of the TV here is American and people really love it. The good thing is that we don't have any voice dubbing but only use subtitles. For the younger people, even subtitles aren't always necassary and they tend to watch DVDs and downloaded series without them. Most book stores also carry a lot of English magazines and books, and you actually quite often catch people on the train reading English literature. When I studied CS at the university, 90% of the material was in English. In the master phase classes are completely in English.

It is said that Dutch is the closests language to English (well actually Holland's second official language 'Fries' is even closer, but only a minority speaks that). So, the understanding of English is almost perfect for a lot of people here. Strangely enough, speaking is quite another issue. Not that many people speak really unaccented American or English. This mainly comes from the fact that we simply don't speak it very often. We consume a lot of it in all of its forms, but mainly produce it in written form only.

It's also remarkable that our closest neighbour, Germany, isn't exposed to a lot of English at all. My girlfriend lives only a few miles from the German border (well, what used to be the border, it's mostly gone now) and over there all TV content is dubbed and bookstores often don't carry a single English magazine.

We have a fond relationshp with the Netherlands.

A couple of years ago I worked in Gorenchem (about 40-50 miles southwest of Amsterdam) on a J2EE consulting gig with a shop that was transitioning from MS technology. Eclipse was in its early adopter stage and the client had limited tool resources. So they were keen to try out Eclipse. At that time Genuitec had built the free EASIE appserver connectors and we used the EASIE Weblogic connector which enabled hot-swap debugging of EJBs within Eclipse but had no project support or web dev tools. The experiences we gained during that and several subsequent consulting engagements spurred us to consider creating MyEclipse.

Being from Texas where it is 100 degrees F for 8 out of 12 months a year I never identified with the speed skating obsession. But then again you might find it challenging to understand rattlesnake roundups or chili cookoffs here in Texas. :-)

Yep, we've still got Katrina victims and it seems that all of the greater Houston area is going to either Dallas or San Antonio. I've seen some gas lines forming as people fill up, "just in case" and lots of the inbound highways are completely clogged. But, of course, they're all welcome here.

We are impacted also. Our gasoline prices have spiked already. up from .97 a liter to 1.70 - 2.00 a liter! In USD that's something like $5.50 to $6.50 gallon :cry:

OK everyone, looks like I need to fire up this thread once again as it appears to have stalled. :-)

I saw an email the other day from an instructor in Myanmar wanting to get some MyEclipse licenses for a class he's teaching. Naturally, my first question was "There's a place called Myanmar?". Well, I did a Google search and found that Myanmar is "the country formerly known as Burma", which is located between India and China. Here's a map for those interested.

So, now we know where Myanmar is. Where are you?
