I just downloaded and installed MyEclipse 4.1GA. The first thing I tried to do was setting a breakpoint in a javascript file. I’m about to engage in some ajax development, so I was really looking forward to this feature (as were my team-mates).
However, upon trying to set a break point I get a dialog saying: Cannot add breakpoint. Reason: Cannot add breakpoint.
The details msg sais:
The Javascript debugger cannot be used in non-Windows OSes in this version of MyEclipseWTF!?
I’m using Debian GNU/Linux and so do most of my team mates. What’s the point of having a Java IDE if it’s Windows only? We might as well resort to developping for ASP.NET and switching to Visual Studio 2005 🙁

I feel your pain. Being one of the developers of the JavaScript debugger I really wanted to get the linux version out with the 4.1 release too!
Unfortunately, we had to postpone it. We will put it in in the 4.1.1 timeframe. Please hang tight for just a little longer. 🙂

I appreciate your quick and honest feedback. Of course shipping a feature late is better than shipping a defective feature. If it’s just a “little” longer we’ll be ok. I was just afraid that the same thing would happen with the javascript debugger as has happened to the visual JSP editor. I.e. first it was said that the non-windows version was just delayed and would happen eventually. But nowadays it seems more likely that the linux version has been cancelled (at least for the forseeable future).

We’ve actually finished the first cut at the native libraries to enable the functionality on Linux. We just didn’t have time to finish them to product quality in the 4.1 timeframe. However, this is one of the highest priority items for 4.1.1 so thanks for hanging in there a little longer.

Well, burnig us out is pretty mildly put !
I just renewed my subscription and I noticed (my fault, I did not follow the forum) that, in 9 days, I will be a “standard edition” subscriber. This does not make me eligible to see the JS debugger unless I upgrade …
Because, of course, I run MyEclipse on Linux.
Up to now, MyEclipse has been my way to learn what could be done, and then try to do it in plain Eclipse or using other plug-ins.
And this been happening for a long time, now.
Makes me ask myself why I still hang around…
I know Eclipse/MyEclipse also run in MS Windows, but … oh, forget it! I cannot, even, be sarcastic anymore. Just very, very sad!Daniel
(P.S.: Could the Linux version of MyEclise IDE be called “The Sub-Standard Edition”?)We are currently in the process of porting the web20 features to Linux. It is always our intent to deliever all of the features to all of the platforms. If we don’t its because of some technology concern that is slowing down the process. One example is the Eclipse/SWT_AWT bug that is holding up some of the features on the Mac platform. Thanks for your patience as we work through these issues.
it is getting to be all to common to find out AFTER THE FACT that various important my eclipse features are not supported on non-windows platforms. You guys need to be more UPFRONT with this and indicate in your promo pages when features are not fully supported. As many, i subscribed based on what I feel are broken promises. This is just another one.

I can understand you are mad but all of these notices *are* in our release notes, they have always been. It’s not like we are some corporate entity around here trying to squeeze you guys, we are all developers. We know it’s annoying as hell to see announcements and then find out after you download the damn thing that it won’t run.But I need to reitterate here, we clearly mark all of our features that are limited to a particular platform or version (like Pro) as part of the release notes.
