Sometimes after downloading the MyEclipse installer for your platform, it's possible to have the installer popup saying "Incorrect magic number" or start correctly, but when asked where to place MyEclipse, the installer will keep prompting you to "Please select another location to extract the installer to". The problem in both cases is that the download is infact corrupt and the installer is not able to continue, but instead of correctly realizing that the internal archive of MyEclipse is corrupt, the installer just thinks you are selecting bad locations to extract to and giving you a somewhat cryptic message. In these cases the fix is to redownload the installer and make sure that it's size matches the size specified on the MyEclipse site.
This situation can also be caused in more rare cases by antivirus/antispyware software potentially blocking the installer and more commonly not having administrative rights to extract the installer to the location you specified. In these cases the fix is to temporarily disable your antivirus/antispyware software and/or have an administrator perform the installation for you or give you a location to install the software to with the proper permissions. |
