    Hello,

first I’d like to compliment you on your product! (I think that I’m on my 3rd renewal).

Now the bad news – ME 5.1 is so unstable on Linux using JSP/HTML/Javascript that I’ve had to abandon it for that type of work. I still use it for pure java development because I like the tool set so much.

I’ve been corresponding w/ Peco on this issue since early December and understand that a few problems have been identified that will eventually be incorporated into a patch or perhaps into 5.5. I would urge you to not let this problem fall off the plate because I would love to be able to use ME for all my web development again.

    Thanks!

John, thank you very much for the continued support.

If you use the source editor only does the stability improve? The reason I ask is because we have been tackling the Linux instability issue for a month straight internally and it’s a really hard problem to solve. We’ve made 4 large-scale improvements to the Linux designer but are still able to get it to crash due to some native-level interactions that are different based on how threads are modelled on Linux (it’s a nasty-nasty race condition). Because of this we took the designer out of the 5.5M1 release for Linux because our product manager feels very strongly that a feature shouldn’t be included unless it’s stable. (I tend to agree).

Also this definately hasn’t fallen off anyones plate. In fact it takes up most of Peco’s plate right now but we’ve been making headway, so things are slowly getting towards a resolution. Thank you for your patience while we beat this into submission.

    Thanks for your reply.

No, I only use the source editor, so all of my problems are w/in that environment.

    John,
Are you using the source editor maximized inside of the editor that also offers you Designer tabs, are have you associated your files to open with the MyEclipse JSP Editor, which is just the Source/Preview tabs?

JSP, HTML files open in an editor that contains tabs for source, design, design/source, mozilla preview.
JavaScript files open in an editor that contains tabs for source, preview

Ahh this could be the problem. Even though you ar eusing the source tab only, the designer code is still being initialized. If you associate your JSP and HTML files to the “MyEclipse JSP” and “MyEclipse HTML Editor” respectively, only the source and preview tabs will be initialized and will subsequently load faster, and help us track down where the stability problem lies more accurately.

    Thanks Riyad,

can you please explain how one associates JSP and HTML files to the MyEclipse editors? Can this be done for all files in all projects at once?

Surely, just go to Window > Preferences and then under General > Editors > File Associations. From there you can find the HTML and JSP extensions, and set the “Editor” (non-designer) editors as the Default for those files types.

    Riyad,
My problem is the other way..
I need my JSF, JSP, HTML files open in an editor that contains tabs for source, design, design/source, mozilla preview.
However, they are opening in Design/Preview tabs only.
    Can you help?

    nirupamc,
We actually changes the layout of the designer to the new 2-tab system. You’ll notice on the “Design” tab, that there is a sash now that splits the design and source views. You can collapse the sash to hide one or the other, making the view effectively source only, or design only if you like.
