    Hi,
I’m having crazy HANGS using the HTML Designer in snap mode. I’m running Win 2000 with a P4 & 2GB RAM, JDK1.5.08. Version: 5.5.0 Milestone 1 Build id: 20070123-5.5.0-Milestone1

I don’t know what other info to provide, please help.

    Thanks,

Can you explain the hangs? Is the VM crashing? Is your CPU pegged? Does the app continue to work, or totally lock up? How reproducable is it? Can you narrow it down to a set of actions that cause it to lock up?

    Hi,
I just re-read my original post, I was really not very clear.

    Here’s what happens:

I open a very big html file (IMHO) 380KB which was generated by MS-WORD 2000 (I’ve removed all the MS-WORD conditional tags, css etc.)

I minimize the designer mode so that I can see only the code. The CPU reaches 100% for ~40 seconds for every character that I type. This CPU spike happens everytime I type any character (backspace, alpha, whatever…)

The snap app never crashes, it’s just not usable. I’ve tried other HTML files, that are pretty big even though they were not generated by MS-WORD, and the same problem occurs.

    Thanks

Can you send me this file to support@genuitec.com ATTN Riyad, with a link to this thread for reference? I’ll look into it.

    David,
I got your file and opened it with the HTML snap. I then switched to the source view, scrolled half way down and start typing in new paragraphs (using <p> elements) inside of one of the TD’s… everything seemed fine.

Can you tell me exactly where/and what to type to see if I can reproduce the problem?

Anywhere and everywhere… when I open the file i MyEclipse and use HTML Editor instead of HTML Designer, it works fine.

I must be doing or not doing something. In designer or source mode everything is snappy, scrolling around typing gibberish into any of the boxes.

Can you go to Help > About > Configuration Details, and paste the first few pages of information here for me?

How much physical ram do you have? I can’t figure out why we are seeing such vastly different behaviors. You can hold down CTRL-SHIFT-ESC to get task manager to popup and check out how much free physical memory you have.

I’m going to guess that RAM the shortcut is giving to the HTML designer just isn’t sufficient and it’s causing thrashing on your machine, given your document size. Can you please update your shortcut’s VM arguments to the following:

    …imageeditor.exe -vmargs -Xms256M -Xmx512M -XX:PermSize=128M -XX:MaxPermSize=256M -vm ….

    That might do the trick.
