The ONLY reason I bought RAD 7.0 licenses for my company is because it has the WAS 6.0, 6.1 runtimes. I would love to leverage MyEclipse Blue, but from what I have read so far it does not bundle a runtime. The WebSphere Express trial only goes for 60 days, so what would we use as the runtime with MyEclipse Blue?

Your correct in that MyEclipse Blue does not currently bundle a WebSphere runtime. There are discussions internally about provisioning runtime installations but there are no commitments to that end at the moment.

However, MyEclipse Blue can leverage any existing Websphere runtime installations you have available. That even includes the WAS runtimes that are apart of your RAD7 installation. So you can configure the WebSphere connectors in MyEclipse Blue to point to the various runtimes installed as part of RAD7. So you could do the following:

1. In MyEclipse Blue go to Window > Preferences > MyEclipse Blue Edition > Servers > Websphere -Blue Connectors > WebSphere 6.1
2. For the WAS home directory browse and point it to the directory under RAD7, <RAD7_INSTALL_BASE>\runtimes\base_v61
3. The rest of the fields should be auto-configured and select OK

Thanks for the reply. This unfortunately doesn't help me though as I would like to completely get rid of RAD and only use MyEclise Blue. Sounds like this isn't an option right now though. Why is there no "developer" version of WebSphere? And yes, I know I'm asking that question in the wrong forum, ha!

Your asking the right questions. All I can say right now is that the management team is pursuing options that could address your problem. We are sensitive to the hassles that come with trying to download/install/update websphere. I can't commit to anything right now but we are working on this problem. Stay tuned!

try this:

IBM WebSphere Application Server for Developers - license

License + 1 Year Software Maintenance - 1 user - Passport - level E - 3.33 points

MFG#: D51JXLL-E

CDW SKU# 1141271

$643.06

depending on your IBM relationship, you might get it for less direct from IBM

Also, if you happen to be an IBM Business Partner, you can use WAS for development purposes only for no license cost. If you're not a biz partner, then you can get the developer only license.
