Have been using ME since version 6 and would really like to see the ability to add / alter columns in a table without having to resort to creating a script.

Also, having the capability to add records to a table, again without having to resort to scripts.

Both of these things are needed on a VERY regular basis and make using the Database Explorer almost worthless other than selecting tables to reverse engineer.

    mongonv,

Thank you for posting your feature request. I shall escalate to dev team member. Could you provide detail of another IDE which provides such functionality?

If you look at almost any database management tool out there, vendor built or third party (SQL Mgmt Studio, TOAD, SQL Developer, etc.), which is what your Database Explorer is essentially competing with, they all provide the ability to add new fields and add new records without having to create SQL scripts to do it.

Your Database Explorer is already ready most of the way there, but with out those two operations, its like building a car and not adding a steering wheel or gas tank fill pipe. You have to do both the hard way or just keep going in the same direction.

If you are building a GUI tool, don’t strip off two of the most commonly used operations that we have to use other tools to do on a constant daily basis when developing applications.

    mongonv,

Thanks for your request. We agree that those two features are desirable as part of our database explorer and we now have an enhancement request raised to add them. I can’t give a release schedule, at this point, though.

    mongonv,

Just a note to let you know that the latest release of MyEclipse, 10.5, includes the ability to add and delete rows from a table.

Thanks again for raising the issue.
