Post subject: OS X Mountain Lion - "unidentified developer"  PostPosted: Jul 26, 2012 - 02:22 AM

Installation on OS X Mountain Lion fails with the following message:

“MyEclipse 10.5 Installer” can’t be opened because it is from an unidentified developer."

This appears to be one of the new features of Mountain Lion - it requires all installers to be "signed" by acknowledged Apple Developers. So, now I can't install anything. Any idea if you will have a fix soon?

jonebaker,

Sorry to hear you are running into this issue. Please answer below queries -
1. How are you trying to install ME 10.5? Using all-in-one installer / pulse / update site on top of eclipse classic?
2. Please attach a screenshot of the issue to help me get a visual

I have escalated your issue to dev team member. They will get back to you.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

Jone,

Thank you for reporting this problem. I'll get our installer team to look into the problem ASAP.

For now, a possible workaround would be to use the archived update site which is also available on our download page. You would need to install an Eclipse classic install (3.7.2) and then point it to the archived update site to install the bits of MyEclipse that you need.

I'll post here when we know more about the installer issues, please let me know if you need additional assistance.

Thank you for your quick replies. I am trying to install the DMG file for Mac OS X. I have attached a screen shot for you.

According to the online documentation at Apple, this is a new feature of Mountain Lion (OS X 10.8). In order to keep malware off the computers, they are only allowing signed packages to be installed. The signatures, which are created using XCode, are all registered by Apple.

There is a lot more information here: https://developer.apple.com/resources/developer-id/

Finally, there is also a workaround. In System Preferences, choose "Security & Privacy". In the General tab, there is an option to "Allow applications downloaded from:". You can select "Anywhere" (but you must click the lock icon first).

I have done this, and I'm working fine, but my company has said they will lock this down shortly to prevent unauthorized applications from being installed. So it's not a long term option.

Thanks for you help.

jonebaker,

Thanks for contacting us and bringing this installation issue to our attention. As you've correctly pointed out, OS/X 10.8 (Moutain Lion) has the new Gatekeeper feature that by default requires apps to be signed and registered with Apple prior to installation. More information about this feature is available in this MacWorld review of Mountain Lion.

Like many software developers, we'll be going through the registration process with Apple to get registered in their new program as well as sign our apps using their new protocol. However, this takes a bit of time so the current workaround of simply changing the Gatekeeper preference prior to installation and then changing it back (if you like) is the best option. That said, we hope to have the issue addressed soon.
