Hi,
In my MyEclipse life, I have tried several times to install MyEclipse on Linux, but I have never succeeded, just like now with MyEclipse2014-Pro on CentOS 6.5 64 bit.
Now I get the following error message:
Starting installer – please wait…
– Preparing install engine
– Extracted install engine
– Detected JVM architecture: 64 bit
– Launching install engine; waiting for completion

Is there any description/Readme on what prerequisites and what steps are needed to successfully install MyEclipse on Linux?
I here alone with a runnable file, with no other information at hand, just the error message displayed.

I’m sorry you’re having trouble installing MyEclipse on Linux. We do test on common Linux distributions and I have installed on many different Linux systems.
I’ve just tried on Centos 6.2 (I don’t have Centos 6.5 installed, at the moment) and had no trouble installing MyEclipse. We usually recommend the Oracle (Sun) JDK but I have OpenJDK 1.6.0_22 on my Centos system and it worked fine. Which version of Java do you have on your system?
An alternative way of installing MyEclipse is to download the archived update site (available on the downloads page) – or use the on-line update site – and install on a classic eclipse package, instructions are on the download page. If you use this method, please note that a few features are not automatically installed when installing the MyEclipse Enterprise Workbench category. If you find there are missing features that you need, they can also be installed from the update site (or archived update site) by deselecting the group by category option and choosing the relevant plug-ins (required plug-ins for any selected plug-in will be installed automatically).

The requested information is as follows.
java version “1.6.0_28”
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.13.Opre) (rhel-1.66.1.13.0-e16-x86_64)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 23.25-b01, mixed mode)
I am afraid, I am always choosing versions, which do not work.
Thank you for your advice choosing an alternative way.
I read about it in the documentation, but I do not feel like working a lot, possibly in vain.
(Then I could experiment with different Java versions, etc.)

I succeeded to install MyEclipse as root.
Does that mean that is can only be used by root?

I’m glad you got it installed. There should be no need to install it as root but doing so shouldn’t restrict the use to the root user, provided it was installed to a directory that other users can access. Mostly, MyEclipse needs to write to the user’s home folder and the workspace folder, so you should be OK. Try it and let us know if you have any problems.

Thank you very much for your reply, which contained two pieces of important information.
1. Installation should have gone as a normal user as well. (However interesting error message is produced.)
2. The workspace should be under the complete control of the user. (It is already the same in Win 7 as well, if I remember well.)Now we can really close this topic.
