Is there any way to configure MyEclipse Professional 2014 to not open the jsp visual designer for jsp files by default ? Designer is slow and not that useful.

    Hi,

Sorry that you are seeing issues with the Visual Designer.

You can change the file association for JSP to open with a different editor and make it default. Go to Window > Preferences > General > Editors > File Associations, select the associated editor for the *.jsp and click on ‘Default’ to make it the default editor. Here is the screenshot for your reference :

Coming to the visual editor being slow, if you do not use the visual aspects of the visual designer, you can switch to a simple text editor as suggested above.

If you want to work with visual editor and want us to investigate the slowness, please answer some more questions :

    1. Can you check if increasing the memory in the .ini file fixes the issue?

    2. We have sometimes seen performance issues with some JavaScript libraries and adjusting how JavasScript code analysis is done has helped, at the expense of reduced functionality. These preferences can be reached in the Preferences dialog under MyEclipse->Files and Editors->JavaScript.

    3. How many projects do you have in the workspace? Are you working with very large projects ? If yes, then can you please switch to a workspace with fewer projects and see if the issue persists?

    4. If you are seeing significant delay with the visual editor, please switch to a new workspace, replicate the issue and send us the .log file which is located at <workspace dir>/.metadata/.log to help us investigate further. Also share your OS and version details.

Let us know how it works for you.
