    MyEclipse 3.8 Install Instructions
Below are the install instructions for people wanting to upgrade or install MyEclipse 3.8 GA.

    Requirements:
*Eclipse 3.0 SDK GA Download (~80meg)
    *MyEclipse 3.8 GA Download (~55meg)

    Description:
Installation of MyEclipse 3.8 GA will be slightly different than previous releases in that it will require you to uninstall MyEclipse completely before installing the new release. The reason for this (instead of using the Eclipse Update) is that some plugins were removed between the 3.8 Beta releases and the GA release, most noteworthy are the debug plugins. Unfortunately Eclipse’s Update mechanism does not provide a way to delete or remove plugins, so we will walk you through an entire uninstall then reinstall of MyEclipse 3.8.

We will outline two ways to uninstall MyEclipse: one way using the InstallSheild installer and one using the manual install. Both ways will start the same but will end differently. The common 1st step is shown below. After following the 1st step, then select the 2nd step based on how you installed MyEclipse.

Step 1 (Common to both Install Types):
We are going to use the build in “Manage Configuration” functionality from Eclipse. You can open that menu by click Help > Software Updates > Manage Configuration…

Now select your MyEclipse installation, right click on it and click “Disable”

Eclipse should now ask you to Restart in order for the changes to be made, go ahead and click “OK”.

After Eclipse restarts, go ahead and shut it down and select the next step depending on how you installed MyEclipse.

    Step 2 (InstallShield Installer):
If you installed MyEclipse using the InstallShield installer, then this is the correct Step 2 to use. In this step we will run the Uninstaller to have it go ahead and erase MyEclipse for us.

Go ahead and navigate to your Start menu, then Programs and then MyEclipse and then select the “Uninstall MyEclipse” icon. The installer should walk you through the process of uninstalling MyEclipse succesfully. After you are done, skip down to Step 3.

Step 2 (Manual Install OR You don’t know how you installed):
If you installed MyEclipse using the Manual Install or by other means, then this is the correct Step 2 to use. In this step we will manually erase MyEclipse from the directory we originally unzipped it to. Technically even if you installed MyEclipse using the Installer, you could still uninstall it via this step if you preferred (on Windows, the Installer may leave a few useless registry settings behind though, but MyEclipse doesn’t need them).

Now open up an explorer Window and navigate to the directory where MyEclipse is installed, select that directory and delete it. Now navigate to your Eclipse install directory and the “links” subdirectory under it. Find the
“com.genuitec.eclipse.MyEclipse.link” file and erase it. Walla, you are done, that was all you needed to do to uninstall MyEclipse. Please continue to Step 3.

Step 3 (MyEclipse is uninstalled Now):
Now that MyEclipse is uninstalled, you can now install MyEclipse 3.8 GA using the InstallShield Installer or Manual Install, both downloadable from our site here: http://www.myeclipseide.com/ContentExpress-display-ceid-10.html

If you choose to do the Manual Install, its even easier than it was before, be sure to reread the brand new instructions. The new Manual Install (for Eclipse 3.x only) makes use of the “Manage Configuration” functionality in Eclipse to install MyEclipse, there is no need to edit \links files any more!

If you run into any problems or have any questions about the install process, please post to the Installation, Configuration & Upgrade forum here: http://www.myeclipseide.com/PNphpBB2+file-viewforum-f-1.html and we will do what we can to get you up and running.

    Happy Upgrading!
