Hello ,

in FAQ topic (http://www.myeclipseide.com/PNphpBB2+file-viewtopic-t-10270.html) there is a reference to the manual install as a way to 'silently' install myeclipse.
But the installation instruction (step 5 & 6) ask to finish the install by doing some manual acticonfiguration using the eclipse GUI. which in my eyes can not really classify as 'silent' install.

Does anyone know a way to make also this last step scriptable? Maybe by editing some property files of eclipse? (eclipse\configuration\org.eclipse.update\platform.xml seems to be a candidate for this)

We have a corporate lisence for myeclipse and I want to install myeclipse unattended. I had no permission to comment on the FAQ part, so I hope this is the right place for this question...

Kay

I just downloaded Eclipse 3.2 and MyEclipse 5.0 (MyEclipseEnterpriseWorkbenchInstaller_5.0.1GA_E3.2.exe) today so I am sure I have the latest versions.

Every time I go to install MyEclipse, I get the message "Please select another location to extract the installer to:" but no matter what directory I choose, it never works.

I'm on XP Pro with tons of free disk space. Any ideas? I re-downloaded several times just to make sure I didn't have a corrupt file.

Thanks

Unfortunately, this one occurs from time to time for a variety of reasons and is covered in this FAQ entry here: http://www.myeclipseide.com/PNphpBB2+file-viewtopic-t-13825.html

Hmm... I disabled Symantec AV and ran as a local admin, so I must have a bad installer...

Yep, was a bad installer. Was never able to get the download one to work -- had to use the torrent...

Hi,

I just managed to manually install from the Linux-version of MyEclipse. Here is how it goes:

Open a shell (=terminal) and cd to the directory of the EnterpriseWorkbenchinstaller-XXX.bin file.

Type:

chmod 755 ./EnterpriseWorkbenchinstaller-XXX.bin
export LAX_DEBUG=1
./EnterpriseWorkbenchinstaller-XXX.bin

now, it at least extracts the data to some place in the /tmp directory, which is printed in the debug output, like so:

Creating installer data directory: /tmp/install.dir.12025

Now, cd to that directory.

then,
cd InstallerData

There should be a zip file (installer.zip or so). unzip it:

unzip ./installer.zip

then there is lots of lots of files which we do not need. But there is a BIG .jar file like 130MB or so, which contains the MyEclipse itself, on my distribution it is in

C_/dev/workspaces/myeclipse3.1-production-build/ViperInstallation/work/feature_install.

relateive to where you are now ..

create a eclipse directory somewhere (*not* inside the eclipse IDE itself, as outlined in the install instructions). For example:

sudo mkdir /opt/MyEclpise-X.X
sudo mkdir /opt/MyEclpise-X.X/eclipse

unzip the jar file into that eclipse directory (jar files are zip files with .jar extension)

cd /opt/MyEclpise-X.X/eclipse
unzip /tmp/install.dir.XXX/InstallerData/C_/ ... /eclipse_zg_ia_sf.jar

Then select the eclipse directory as extension location in Eclipse IDE.

This saves you another 145MB download !!

(I'm assume that for MacOS and Windows there's a similar trick to get this working).

Johannes and Others,
You can work around all these steps by simply downloading the "Manual Install", it's the 4th link down on the download page, it's simply a ZIP file of MyEclipse, nothing else. You just download, and unzip, then add it as an extension to Eclipse... viola.

Yes but I wanted to save 2 hours of downloading 140MB .. maybe this information is useful to others who want to save extra 2 hours if not please ignore and download the .zip file.

Johannes,
Gotcha. In that case your method is very helpful... I think I've become one of those slobs that assumes everyone has fast broadband so downloads are no longer a bottleneck :(

Even with broadband it took 2-3 hours to download. Seems that there is netlag somewhere between you and me, other downloads are much faster.
