I have eclipse 2.1, jdk 1.4 . i dowloaded the latest myeclipse version today. I have windows 2000 professional.

I have tried to install myeclipse 3 times now.

When installing i have chosed default values.

It seems to install ok and i also select “myeclipse…” after i start eclipse for the first time after the install , but after the procdure when eclipse restarts itslef it gives me this error

“Unable to read workbench state. Workbench UI will be reset”

After which i uninstall myeclipse and eclipse starts just fine.

    Tried 3 times.

    Suchak,

Sometimes, if the state of Eclipse feature set changes too much Eclipse can have a hard time figuring out how to reconcile the changes. The most likely cause of this issue is if you had editor windows open for any of the MyEclipse file types before you installed MyEclipse. When you istall MyEclipse, the default editors have changed and the old editors can’t be reopened as they were, which means your workbench state could not be reset. In the cases I’ve seen this occur in the past, Eclipse will still start up (although perhaps more slowly). Once started, you should be able to reopen whatever perspectives or views you desire.

If this is not the case, what I would suggest is that you uninstall MyEclipse and then start Eclipse. Close all perspectives except the Resource perspective. Exit Eclipse. Then install MyEclipse and restart. Eclipse should then prompt you to accept the new features of MyEclipse and restart itself. At that point, you should have a fully functional MyEclipse installation.

    Sorry for the inconvenience.

    Scott,

Tried all that you said , does not work.

I will try uninstalling eclipse and trying from scratch but of that does not work, hate to say it but, I guess i will have to live without myeclipse for now.

    Suchak,

I want to point out that:

“Unable to read workbench state. Workbench UI will be reset”

while inconvenient, should not pose a significant problem. Once the workbench starts and resets the UI, you should just have to reopen any perspectives you were using prior to the installation. Once you’ve done this one time and exited the workbench, the problem should not be present on the next restart. Is this not what you’re seeing? Does Eclipse start at all after giving you the warning regarding the UI state?

    Scott,

I did not want to waste more time with this version of eclipse(though it is 2.1 eclipse-SDK-M3-win32.zip) so i downloaded eclipse-SDK-I20030528-win32.zip version which is the latest integration build. (They did not seem to have the latest stable build.)

I then removed the previous version of eclipse and now installed this version.

So now MyEclispe did install correcty.

Now i guess nothing stops me from finding out the best way to use it.

    Thanks for all the help.

    Have a wonderfull day !

Just for closure of this thread I’d like to make the following notes.

First, the version of Eclipse that Suchak was having trouble with was the 2.1 M3 build. M3 was a stable build in the Eclipse 2.1 code stream, but was released a couple of months prior to the final 2.1 release build. Use of a developmental build was most likely the cause of the installation issues he experienced.

Second, MyEclipse is only tested on the Eclipse 2.1 release build. Installation of a later build of Eclipse is not guaranteed to work with MyEclipse although it very well might. When using MyEclipse, we suggest you at least start with the 2.1 release build, which is available from our downloads area or from http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/index.php

    Suchak,

Please don’t think I was trying to assign blame. I truly wasn’t. I was simply trying to leave a complete thread that included a problem, a resolution, and a path to follow to avoid such complications. Your experience was very valuable for the “public record”. By closing it out, I was simply trying to make it complete and as beneficial to future readers as possible.
