The forums are setup to limit users' ability to edit posts since we don't have the fine-grained security model to limit edit capability to own posts. Allowing the edit option would allow anyone with Edit status to modify any post in the forum. This option is limited to moderators.

As for the missing words bug, can you provide the link to your previous post on the subject.

I would mention that missing words in the subject are usually caused by double quotes, and the title of the page based on the subject is almost always messed up (e.g. the word "debug" will usually show up as "dbug" as the title...)
