I just downloaded eclipse, myEclipse, Tomcat, and jdk-1.5 and am trying to set up a web application. While I have done a decent amount of web development in the past, all the applications have been set up using websphere 5.0 and have been deployed to a Websphere server by someone on the deployment team. so I have no experience with tomcat and configuring the server.

I have installed all four of the above mentioned things. When I start of MyEclipse and go to create a J2EE project I have to create a Target server. When I attempt to create this I browse to the Tomcat Installation directory and choose the installation directory, but at the top I still receive an error “The Tomcat installation directory is not correct.” Can anyone tell me a possible error or perhaps point me to good documentation that may help me.

FYI, I am using the following versions.
    Tomcat 5.5.4
    jdk 1.5
    eclipse 3.0
    myEclipse 3.8.3

I have started up tomcat and can go to localhost and view the page they have set up.

    Thanks

Do you have WTP installed by chance? In MyEclipse you setup your application server connectors, you don’t setup “Target Servers” and IIRC that is part of the New Project Wizard that ships with WTP. I would suggest you don’t have both WTP and MyEclipse installed at the same time as they both make use of some overlapping plugins (it should work, but it may get funky).

For questions relating to MyEclipse, please read our Application Server quickstart guide AND more importantly our Web project quickstart guide: http://www.myeclipseide.com/ContentExpress-display-ceid-67.html
