I updated to 3.8.2 following the instructions. Afterwards, when I re-entered Eclipse it said that there were updates available. I've gone through multiple iterations of trying to install these, but they don't "take". At this point I think I should just uninstall everything and start all over. I found no info on the Eclipse site that helped. Is there a list somewhere of all the contents of a current, successful 3.8.2 installation?

I don't follow what you mean by "contents of a current, successful 3.8.2 installation"?

Just download Eclipse 3.0.1, MyEclipse 3.8.2, unzip Eclipse, install MyEclipse, create a new workspace just to make sure and walla... so fresh and so clean clean ;)
