I really like the idea of myEclipse. I will pay for it if it makes me more productive.

I’ve been an eclipse user for the last three months. And I have managed to install and config a few plusins (i.e.: VSS, UML, etc.), here are my questions:

    – If I install myEclipse, does it affect the existing plugins?

    – I already have a few working projects created and I am continuely working on them, will the installation of myEclipse blows away my projects and interrupt my current ongoing work.

    – Should I wait for EA2 release next week or go ahead with EA1 now?

    Thanks.

    Good questions all.

    – If I install myEclipse, does it affect the existing plugins?

MyEclipse installs as a product extenstion to Eclipse so all of its features and plugins are house externally to your base Eclipse installation. When Eclipse starts up, it will then basically take the union of all the Eclipse and MyEclipse plugins and features and load up the latest versions of each plugin found. We don’t do anything to your existing plugin set at all.

will the installation of myEclipse blow away my projects and interrupt my current ongoing work.

Basically, no it won’t. However, our web (and upcoming EJB and EAR) projects are laid out in an exploded archive format so that they can be easily deployed. If your existing projects are in exploded format, you’ll be able to use the upcoming deployment tooling for MyEclipse. If not, you’ll most likely have to manage your own deployment, as you do now, but you’ll still be able to use our app server debugging facilities and other wizards. You can basically use as much of MyEclipse as you want to.

Should I wait for EA2 release next week or go ahead with EA1 now?

Given that it’s Friday and EA2 will be available sometime Monday, personally I’d wait since the feature set is so much broader in EA2.

    Welcome to MyEclipse.
