Some recent posts from Arthur Ryman on news.eclipse.org/eclipse.webtools:

We in WebSphere Studio land are very supportive of this project and want to get working on it asap. But we also strongly believe that it is in the best long term interests of the Java development community to have other vendors participate. The eclipse organization is actively seeking the participation of other vendors, so we’ll all have to be patient for a little longer. However, I do expect this issue to get resolved soon and am looking forward to working with you all. It would be very discouraging if no one was griping about the delay!

Since you kindly elected to allow me to keep my lungs, I think it’s only fair to reward you with some information. I had a very productive meeting yesterday with an eclipse board members and I can assure you that they are actively engaged in rebooting this project. I met some other like-minded vendors and they are eager to get started. I expect the organizational issues to be resolved in a week or two. If all goes as planned, watch out for the creation of some subprojects soon, and some nifty code to play with.

Apparently they are having a meeting this Monday and should have some sort of announcement… it looks like the webtools project for eclipse is *finally* underway.

So. Does myeclipse have an ‘official’ stance on the webtools project ? are you going to contribute and become a member/sponsoring company, or are you going to stay independant ? if the latter, is interoperability with the webtools project going to be a goal ? what changes to your product’s focus do you forsee ?

    ivar,

    Thanks for your interests.

Genuitec has been the most active participant on the Eclipse Board to develop a rational scope for what is potentially a very open-ended project. Our position since the project was originally released has been to promote and assist the project to the fullest extent possible short of undermining our own business objectives. Our Web Tool technology plans are to adopt and integrate the best contributions of the project that will benefit our customers. So compatibility will be a top objective of MyEclipse. Also, we will actively participate on the project to provide requirements and technical insights we have gained over the years. For example we are already working with the Eclipse team to incorporate several MyEclipse features into the Eclipse Platform. We are also working with other 3rd party vendors to bring new extended capabilities to MyEclipse users that goes beyond the scope of the Web Tools project.

    I hope this helps.
