1. Preface

This document was written using MyEclipse. All screenshots are based upon the default user interface settings for MyEclipse and Windows XP. However, if you experience difficulty with the instruction of this document, please see the User Feedback section for how to provide feedback to the MyEclipse documentation team.

2. Introduction

This tutorial details how to install Matisse4MyEclipse from the MyEclipse Discovery site into an existing MyEclipse installation or even install it directly into a plain Eclipse install (without MyEclipse installed). Matisse4MyEclipse is only available on the MyEclipse Discovery site.

Note: Matisse4MyEclipse is only available to users with a Professional level MyEclipse subscription. A free 30-day trial of MyEclipse with professional features enabled is available from www.myeclipseide.com.

3. Installation (for MyEclipse)

Before you can install Matisse4MyEclipse, you must have installed MyEclipse Enterprise Workbench available here.

  1. To begin installation, launch MyEclipse and select Help > Software Updates > Find and Install... as shown in Figure 1 below.

Figure 1: Software Updates - Find and Install...

  1. Choose Search for new features to install and select Next as shown in Figure 2.

Figure 2: Search for New Features to Install

  1. In the sites to include in search list you will see the MyEclipse Discovery Site.  If you don't see the site, be sure you have properly installed MyEclipse into your environment.  If you have MyEclipse installed, the MyEclipse discovery Site should be visible as shown in Figure 3.

Once the MyEclipse Discovery Site has been checked, click Finish.

Figure 3: New Update Site

  1. Once the search has finished, it should have found the MyEclipse Discovery site.  So expand the discovery site node to see the available features.  Then select the com.genuitec.myeclipse.matisse feature as shown in Figure 4.  Note: your version is likely more up-to-date that the version shown in Figure 4.

After you have selected the Matisse4MyEclipse feature, click Next.

  1. Prior to installation of Matisse4MyEclipse, you'll need to indicate that you will abide by the license agreement as shown in Figure 5. Once you've indicated that you do, press the Next button as shown.

  1. As shown in Figure 6, prior to installation you'll be asked where you would like Matisse4MyEclipse features to be installed. It is highly recommended that you change the default location, which will be set to your Eclipse installation. Changing the installation location to your MyEclipse installation, or even another new location, will ease ongoing maintenance and keep your Eclipse installation unmodified. The process for changing the installation location is shown in Figure 6 and Figure 7.

4. Installation (for Eclipse)

A nice feature of the Mattise4MyEclipse product is that it can be installed directly into a stand alone plain Eclipse install, and doesn't require MyEclipse to even be installed. You do require a valid Pro MyEclipse Subscription in order to use it however.

This allows developers with very focused needs to make use of some of the powerful assests in the MyEclipse IDE without needing to install the entire IDE.

The way Matisse4MyEclipse is installed into a stand alone Eclipse install is almost identical to Section 3 above except you have to add the Discovery Site yourself first.

Step 1

First you want to go to Help > Software Updates > Find and Install... After that dialog pops up, select the 2nd option of Search for new features to install.

Now you want to click the New Remote Site... button, and add the MyEclipse Discovery Site to your list using the URL http://downloads.myeclipseide.com/downloads/products/eworkbench/discovery-6.0/:

NOTE: The version at the end of the discovery site changes with each major release of MyEclipse, be sure to account for this when entering your URL in.

Step 2

After the discovery site is entered, you want to select it and hit Finish:

Step 3

Now the Update Manager will scan the update site and find the available installs for you:

After selecting the Matisse4MyEclipse Swing UI Designer item, you can click Next and install it identically to the steps covered in Section 3 above.

5. Getting Started

After the restart completes, you'll need to open the MyEclipse Swing/Matisse perspective in order to begin using Matisse4MyEclipse.

  1. The simplest way to accomplish this is to select perspective shortcut button and select MyEclipse Swing/Matisse perspective as shown in Figure 11.

  1. In the Package Explorer view, select the Java project to which you'd like to add a Matisse form and select New > Matisse Form from the shortcuts menu as shown in Figure 12. The resulting wizard will guide you through the creation of the new form.
