If I change settings in XDoclet that would change the set of generated files and I ran the XDoclet again the older files are not deleted and are left there and currently it's the programmer job to clean those files before executing the XDoclet build. In a big project where there are lots of files generated such a task is not so pleasant.

It would be better if somehow those files were cleaned before. Hope it is doable :)

I'm with you. In order to provide this capability we'd really need XDoclet to be able to provide it first. There's also the problem that some people may generate and then edit the generated files. It could prove tricky to pull this one off well. :-)

In the meantime, I'd suggest using the package mapping facility in XDoclet to ensure that all your generated files go into packages that contain only generated files. This will at least make manual elimination easier.
