A rename of a control does not rename the variable names in the subsequent event handlers.
A refactoring step probably would be better in this area.

You are correct, this is the default behavior from NetBeans and a refactor step would make a lot more sense here. I'll file it.

add to that that eclipse does not lock the locked areas as netbeans does,
(I do not dare to edit those parts, but I assume they will be overwritten)

You are right, the markers before and after the methods are what tell the generator to replace the contents, even if you editor those portions they will be replaced. We want/need to implement the protected code blocks, it was just a time issue before M1 was released.
