One final question if I may...Is it possible to run M2 with Eclipse 3.1 or is a hard prerequisite to run with Eclipse 3.2? The reason I'm asking is that if I can run M2 with 3.1 then I can get this fix to my users sooner rather than later. Perhaps a better way of asking the question would be; is there a way to get this fix into the Eclipse 4.1.1 GA version?

3.2 is a hard and fast requirement.

Unfortunately no, the underlying editor framework changes that went in to 5.0 (which subsequently fixed this) are not back-portable.
